Proper Procedure-
1. Remain in a safe location until government officials declare it is safe to move. A small handheld radio is useful for receiving this information. Once the information is declared be sure to follow any important guidelines that may also be included. These may include information about areas that are still unsafe to return to.
2. Immediately check yourself and any companions for injury. Treat whatever wounds you can and offer help to whomever else might need it. Should a person you are with have a serious injury, head to the closest shelter or hospital. You can find the locations of shelters by texting "SHELTER+zip code" to 43362. (ex: SHELTER 75093)
3. If specified or you are simply not able to return to your home, head to the nearest shelter, not hospital. There food, water, and basic medical attention can be found, as well as further disaster specific instructions.
4.Supplies and relief will be flown in, so it is asked that you do not try and leave the island. Damage may have already slowed air traffic and it is appreciated if it is slowed no more to ensure the quick delivery of supplies to the other island inhabitants. Should a total evacuation be necessary it will be communicated and offered by relief services.
5.It is important to remain calm and strictly follow the instructions of the officials.
